David Ray McMahan, 79, of Southlake, Texas, passed away on July 7, 2020, at Avalon Memory Care in Keller, Texas from complications associated with Alzheimers and COPD. He was born on December 18, 1940, in Anderson, Indiana, to the late Ray and Lucille McMahan.
David was a respected engineer with a deep love for his family. He was named on over 50 patents during his 30 year career at General Motors, where he worked as a Forward Lighting Engineer and Group Manager at the Anderson, Indiana, location. His innovations, collaborations and contributions stand beside some of the finest technical minds in the International lighting field. Growing up with memories of his dad working at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to later, proudly working with his son, Robert Harrington, Jr., David could not help but love the automotive industry. While he may have retired in 1995, he couldnt stop being an engineer and would often be seen engineering - or reengineering - his home, boat or car.
He lived most of his life in Indiana, only leaving Indiana to obtain his Business/Engineering Degree from Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania and then later to be near family - In 2010, he and his wife, MarySue moved to Keller, Texas.
David was a kind and loving husband, father of 3, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle and friend. He unselfishly helped and cared for so many people in his lifetime and never passed up an opportunity to help others think through their problems. Thats what David was a thinker, and then a doer, but always a thinker first. What once was his greatest strength, ultimately became his greatest weakness as he lost his battle with Alzheimers.
He is survived by his wife, MarySue (Stayton) McMahan of Southlake, TX; Daughter, Kristian Reasoner of Noblesville, IN; Sons Robert (Nena) Harrington, Jr. of Laguna Beach, CA and John (Cheryl) McMahan of Keller, TX; Granddaughters, Cassidy Reasoner, and Hayley, Sydney and Kennedy McMahan; Brother Don (Shirley) McMahan of Tucson, AR; Brother-in-law John (Pat) Stayton of Fort Worth, TX; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his Father Ray McMahan and Mother Lucille McMahan.
