David Lee Scherer

David Lee Scherer, 73, of Muncie, passed away December 26, 2022, at his home following an extended illness.


He was born on May 27, 1949, in New Haven, Kentucky.


He attended Noblesville High School. He served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War.


He retired in 2011 from Brockway Glass as a machine operator after 35 years of employment.


He loved fishing and woodworking. He was a member of the Alexandria Eagles Aerie #1771 and Muncie American Legion Post #19.


David is survived by his wife, Sharon Scherer; a daughter, Jennifer Jones of Anderson; a son, Jason (Lisa) Scherer of Lapel; two stepsons, Brian Holle of Logansport and Ashley Moore of Memphis, Tennessee; two brothers, Jim (Carol) Scherer of Florida and David Scherer of California; four grandchildren, Torey (John) Ellis, Gabe Jones, Teague Scherer and Haiden Scherer; and two great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his first wife, Trudy Scherer; and two brothers, Richard Scherer and Steve Scherer.


A funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday, December 30, 2022, at Hersberger-Bozell Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel, Indiana 46051 with Rev. Neal Brown officiating. Burial of ashes will be in Brookside Cemetery in Lapel at a later date.


Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home.


Memorial contributions may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.
