David E. Huffman

Former Lapel resident, David E. "Dave" Huffman, 88, Cape Coral, Florida, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Mary Ann Hatch Hope Hospice in Cape Coral following an extended illness.
He was born on November 28, 1928, in Anderson, Indiana to Earnest Leonard and Mary Elizabeth (Brockmeier) Huffman.
Dave was graduated from Lapel High School in 1947 and he was a U. S. Army veteran having served in Japan with the occupation forces after World War II.
He retired from the former Delco Remy division of General Motors in Anderson after over 30 years of employment.
David was a member of the Lapel American Legion Post 212. After retirement he was an avid camper and enjoyed his home in Cape Coral, Florida where he often played cards with friends. Dave had been an avid reader and fisherman his entire life.
He is survived by three children, Sherry Warrum of Lapel, Cindy (husband, Tom) Stephenson of Anderson, and David (wife, Sandy) Huffman of Fishers; nine grandchildren, Dennis McGlacken (Jaimie Reddick) of Lapel, Shelley Hogan of Lapel, Matt Warrum of Indianapolis, Josh Warrum of Lapel, Brian (wife, Jennifer) Stephenson of Indianapolis, Kevin (wife, Mollie) Stephenson of Lapel, Jamie (wife, Kelly) Huffman of Pendleton, Jeff (wife, Amie) Huffman of Cameron, NC, and Lisa Oldham of Pendleton; fifteen great-grandchildren; his significant other, Margaret Rowe of Cape Coral, Florida; and a sister, Rosie Duffitt of Lapel.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Elizabeth Huffman Ruth; his wife, Lucille (Klinefelter); a brother, Harold Huffman; and a sister, Carolyn Huffman.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 26, 2017, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 Main North Street, Lapel with Pastor Dewey Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery where the Lapel American Legion Post will conduct military graveside rites.
Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM Friday, May 26, 2017, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 Main North Street, Lapel.
