David Clyde Ashby, 90, Lapel, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2020, at Community Hospital of Anderson following a brief illness.He was born on September 21, 1929, in Florida Station to Clyde and Ethel (Shafer) Ashby.He was a disabled Army Air Corps veteran of the Korean War and he retired in 1980 from the former Delco Remy division of General Motors in Anderson after 30 years of employment.David was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapel; a member of the Lapel American Legion Post 212; and a member of several square dancing clubs.He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ramona (Lane); two daughters, Jane (John) Chismar and Chris (Bill) Stone; four grandchildren, David Reddick, Jana (Jimmy) Witcher, Michael C. Beeman, and Jeremy (Melissa) Hinshaw; 5 great-grandchildren, Ashley, Joshua, Jacob, David, and Ainsleigh; a sister, Barbara Bevelheimer; four step-grandchildren, Teri, Nancy, Jason, and Ben; and several nieces and nephews.David was preceded in death by his parents; and 7 brothers and sisters.A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at Hersberger-Bozell Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel, Indiana with Pastor Susan Hobson and Mr. Brett Busby officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery where the Lapel American Post will conduct military gravesites.Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.Online condolences: www.hersbergerfuneralhome.com
