Darrell K. “Beetle” Bailey went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 2, 2023.
Darrell was born on May 30, 1937, in Anderson, the son of John & Pearl Bailey. He spent most of his life in Anderson except for four years in Phoenix, Arizona.
Darrell graduated from Anderson High School in 1955. He married his sweetheart & best friend, Pat Harney on November 17, 1956. Darrell retired from the Anderson Fire Department in 1997, having served almost 27 years as a private, then Sergeant, Lieutenant, and finished his fire fighting career as Captain of Station #5 on Broadway. He absolutely loved his job and took immense pride in being a public servant and helping others. He had served in the Army Reserve & National Guard for nine years. He enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren to enjoy the outdoors whether camping, fishing, or hunting. He loved camping with friends and family, frying fish for everyone. When not camping he loved to mow. He never met a stranger and enjoyed making many friends over the years. Above all else, he loved the Lord and never missed an opportunity to tell others about his Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a member of the First Pentecostal Church in Anderson.
Darrell is survived by the love of his life & wife of 66 years, Pearly “Pat” Bailey; five children, Cindy Day, Darrell “Dewey” Bailey & companion, Ruby Temple, Jerry (wife, Mary) Bailey, Linda (husband, Scott) Zion, and Brenda Rains; twelve grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; five great, great-grandchildren; special friends, Buddy Mabbit & Lee Riggs; several nieces & nephews; and Mark Poston, a treasure to the family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Terry Bailey; sister, Janice Michael; and great granddaughter, Dakota Jade Misner.
