Clifton E. Huffman Jr.

Clifton E. Huffman Jr., 88, Lapel, passed peacefully in his sleep to join his heavenly family. Having enjoyed his family, Church and friends, he was more than ready to go home, walking and singing Amazing Grace.Cliff was a man of many talents and pursuits. Having been an athlete throughout his life, he achieved many awards in tennis and basketball. He believed in children being taught the principals of sports and was an active driving force in establishing Mays Park, Anderson, when the concept of an ice rink and tennis court was established. Loving music, he was a member of the Indiana Gospel Association and participated frequently in his church and as a resident of the nursing home, where he was designated as their official greeter. Being self-employed for several years, he ran the Huffmans Pizza in Lapel where he was constantly assuring everyone that he was slaving like a dog, when caught dozing behind the counter. A jokester, he loved to see people laugh and enjoyed socializing with the young and the young at heart. His smile would light up a room and usually bring a chuckle to all. Having worked from a young age until he was over 80, he thrived on physical activity. Whether driving a dairy truck, hauling gravel, helping family at the races, pumping gas, or making pizzas, working locally at the Lapel Rickers, he put his whole heart into his job. He is survived by his wife, Dot (Dorthea) Huffman; son, Clinton (Cy) Huffman; daughters, Darlyene (Dan), Shawn, Charlynn (Rick); brother, Joe (Wilma) Huffman; sister-in-law, Jan (George) Harris; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter. Clifton was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton J. and Florence L. (Owen) Huffman; brothers, Gerald and Allen Huffman; sister, Doris E. Castor; and a son, Leslie E. Huffman.A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 12, 2019, at Hersberger-Bozell Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel, Indiana with Pastor Richard Cole officiating.
