Markleville-Charles W. “Bill” Wood Sr., 89, passed away, July 8, 2014 at the Henry County Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born January 11, 1925, in Anderson, to the late John & Katherine (Knotts) Wood and was a Markleville resident for many years. He retired from Guide Lamp as a tool & die maker, having worked there for 36 years.
Bill was a member of the Markleville North Christian Church and the Mt. Moriah #77 Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, painting and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Vonda (Flatt) Wood; children, Charles (April) Wood, Jr. and Lesa (Rick) Barlow; grandchildren, Britt (Rob) Frye, Robert Scott (Angie) Shook, Justin (Renee) Wood and David (Jamie) Wood; great grandchildren, Dustin Tracy, Madison Wood, Myles Shook, Henry Frye and Penelope Shook; brother, Orville Wood; sister, Patsy Wood; and son-in-law, Robert Ritchie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Linda Wood Ritchie
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 11 at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, 515 East 53rd St. Anderson, with Pastor Jerome Bell officiating. Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc.
