Charles Stephen Swinford, 73, passed away at his home on August 29, 2017. He was born in Anderson to Charles and Martha Swinford. “Steve” graduated from Anderson High School in 1962. He retired from the Anderson Fire Department in 2005 after 37 years of dedicated service. He attained the rank of Battalion Chief and received several awards and citations throughout his career, including Fireman of the Year in 2005. He loved spending his summers fishing with his friends and family at his cabin on Lake Wangoon, in northern Ontario. He also loved playing cards, listening to Rhythm and Blues, and couples dancing. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife, Nancy Case Swinford. Survivors include his son, Stephen Blaine (Marisa) Swinford; daughter, Heather Ann (Brian) Schmitt; grandchildren, Lainey Swinford, Kasey Swinford, Shelby Schmitt, Sydney Schmitt, Devan Swinford and Haleigh Johnson; five great grandchildren; sister, Beth (Keith) Furnish-McFall; brother, Dan Swinford; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept 5th from 4pm to 8pm at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory. Services will be Wednesday, Sept. 6th, at 11am at the funeral home.
