Charles R. Murdock

Charles R. Murdock, 88, Anderson, passed away February 14, 2017, at Community Hospital in Anderson. He was born November 11, 1928, in Anderson, the son of the late Duncan and Agnes (George) Murdock. He retired from Container Corporation of Anderson after 47 years. Charles was an active member of the Salvation Army working and coaching youth basketball and serving as Athletic Director of Men’s Basketball and Softball. He volunteered Ringing Bells at Christmas, was a Sunday School teacher and put out Salvation Army Flags for soldiers that had passed away. Charles also loved training dogs, he served as director of training at the Muncie Obedience Training Club and was a judge at the Delaware County 4-h Fair. He was very proud of his Doberman, Jude who placed in the top 20 in obedience training in the US and was invited to Seattle, Washington, to compete. He had the terrific honor of having the top male Dobe in the US that year. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Martha Murdock of Anderson; two sons, Charles R. (Stephanie) Murdock, Jr and Roger Murdock all of Anderson; four grandchildren, Kevin (Lisa) Beebe of Florida, Mike (Kim) Murdock of Lapel, Pamela (Chris) Juarez of Michigan and Joe Beebe of Anderson; five great grandchildren, Courtney & Megan Beebe of Florida, Taylor Rose & Aiden Murdock of Lapel and Marco Juarez of Michigan; special friends, Tom & Sally Bilyeu, Bob Buttery and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Duncan and Agnes (George) Murdock; his daughter, Sharon (Murdock) Beebe; a grandson, Charles R. Murdock, III; sisters and brothers, Agnes Cook, Barbara Hubner, Isabelle Moore, Kate Hudson, Duncan Murdock, Jr. and James Murdock. Service will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory with Major Mike Wolfe officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery. Friends may call from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
