Charles “Chuck” Gaus

September 25, 1959 — March 17, 2022

Chuck was the kind of guy who could show up at your house and instantly enchant your children, captivate your pets’ attention, and talk with any nearby adult like they were a long-lost friend. The sudden loss on March 17 of this kind, compassionate man was unexpected, and the result of a massive stroke. He passed on from this life at St. Vincent’s hospital in Indianapolis, surrounded by his family.
Charles and Mary (Williams) Gaus welcomed their only son in September 1959. Chuck and his brother from another mother, Sam Stinson, enjoyed many misadventures growing up together, especially tramping through the woods near Chuck’s childhood home on Layton Road. After attending Lapel High School, Chuck graduated summa cum laude from Indiana State University in Terre Haute. He went on to enjoy successful careers in management and sales.
In 1984, he married the love of his life, Diane Fleischfresser, and they remained loving partners till he drew his last breath. Chuck and Diane lived and worked in Muncie, and raised three sons there: Andrew (Brenda), Adam (Nurcan), and Ryan (Baranda). His family was the core of Chuck’s being. He made the time to be a loving husband, and an active part of his sons’ lives, guiding and supporting them as they grew up to become the fine young men they are today. He was so proud of his boys.
After retiring, Chuck and Diane moved to Pendleton to be closer to their sons and grandchildren: Tevya, Josclyn, Everleigh, Elijah, Harper, Rylan, and Mia. They also regularly visited Chuck’s mother and sister, Mary and Lisa Gaus, who now survive him and live in Indianapolis.
Chuck was predeceased by his father Charles, and sister Laura, both of Anderson; father and mother-in-law Norman and Muriel Fleischfresser, and sister-in-law, Debbie Fleischfresser, all of Wisconsin.
Chuck’s wishes were that there be no service or funeral when he died. To celebrate Chuck Gaus’ memory, please make a donation to, or volunteer at your local animal shelter or Humane Society.
