Carolyn Sue Bailey

October 5th, 1934 – February 18th, 2022

In the early hours of Friday morning February 18th, all of heaven stopped and rejoiced as Carolyn “Susie” Bailey made her way home. Susie was born October 5th, 1934, in Anderson, Indiana, to Roscoe and Pauline Boyer. She was a lifelong resident of Anderson.

She was a kind, quiet, and yet a passionate woman of God. It was this kindness that compelled her to serve her generation with love and generosity. She graduated high school in 1954 and soon married her high school sweetheart, Terry. Together they began a family and built a home. She served alongside her husband in ministry for over 40 years.

In 1970 Terry and Susie had a dream to start a church. A place where those who had never attended church felt welcomed and those who were hurting felt loved. Seven people along with the Bailey family met for their first service in the living room of the Baileys’ home. The church grew quickly, and a building was purchased located at 37th and Madison Avenue. It was named Calvary Temple. The assembly soon outgrew that humble facility and plans were made to build a new place of worship. The church moved to its current facilities in 1983. The following year Terry and Susie started Calvary Academy, a Christian school, where Susie served and taught home economics for over twenty years. The church was later renamed Connection Pointe and it continues to embrace the same vision as its founders, Terry and Susie Bailey.

Susie’s greatest joy was her family. She was deeply in love with her husband Terry Bailey and spent 54 years together before his passing in 2008. She was the proud mother of four, but due to the untimely deaths of Teresa and David was only able to raise two children. She was pleased that her son Tim and her daughter Kathy, continued to work in the ministry with their families.

Her later years were focused on her grandchildren, Nehemiah Bailey, Olivia Smith, and Sara Smith Copple, and great grandchildren, Ian, Kaden, Grace, Noah, and Adeline. Her home was filled with love, laughter, and the smell of fresh baked cookies. She loved her dog Sadie, and she enjoyed cooking, gardening, quilting, and cleaning.

She was a queen among women and will be missed by all.

She is survived by her son Timothy (wife, Wendy) Bailey; daughter Kathy (husband, Donnie) Smith; grandson Nehemiah (wife, Amanda) Bailey; granddaughter Olivia Smith; granddaughter Sara (husband, Michael) Copple; great grandchildren Ian, Kaden, Grace, Noah, and Adeline; sister Barbara (husband, Frank) Hutton; sister Virginia Perkins; Brothers-in-law and Sisters-in-Law Darrel and Pat Bailey and Frances Boyer; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Roscoe and Pauline Boyer; Husband Rev Terry Bailey; Daughter Teresa Bailey; Son David Bailey; Brother Max Boyer; Brother-in-Law Earl Perkins; Brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jim and Janice Michael; Father-in-law and mother-in-law John and Pearl Bailey.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 4pm to 8pm at Connection Pointe Church, 2700 W. 38th Street. Services will be at the church, at 11am Friday with Rev. J.H. Osborne officiating.
