Carolyn S. Hensley, 84, of Alexandria, passed away on April 4, 2020 at Summitville Health and Living. She was born on December 16, 1935 in Summitville to the late Marvin and Jesse Opal (Love) Hoppes. As a teen Carolyn worked at the soda fountain in Howards Pharmacy in Summitville. She attended Indiana Business College in Indianapolis and returned to Summitville to work as an operator for Indiana Bell. She later worked for Hooks Drugs, RAM Graphics, as an officer for Weight Watchers in Alexandria, and at Armstrong Hardware which she owned and operated with her husband. She attended the First Christian Church in Alexandria. Carolyn is survived by her children; Rhonda (Dennis) Shaw of Alexandria, Michael (Jill) Hensley of Greensburg, Joni (Kevin) Killian of Waxhaw, North Carolina, Matthew (Mindy) Hensley of Alexandria; 11 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and a brother, Glen Hoppes of Gas City, and brother-in-law, Richard Maynard of Summitville and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jay, two brothers Bobby Hoppes and Jake Hoppes, and two sisters Dorothy Corn and Donna Maynard. The family would like to thank the staff at Summitville Health and Living for all of their care. Per Carolyn’s wishes a private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
