Carolyn S. Atkins was born to Verlyn and Bertha Isaphene Gentry on April 9, 1939 and died November 27, 2016, joining them, her husband Reuben Atkins, her son Bryan Atkins, and her sister Norma Jean Leeman in heaven. Carolyn spent her life defining the word perseverance and she utilized that trait to take amazing care of her family, receiving her GED at the age of 65 while working full time at Kohl’s, and moved from her home state of Indiana to the warmth of Arizona. She was the consummate cook and was always one to share food with friends and family. Her hobbies included collecting Fenton, watching NASCAR, and experiencing every moment of Indiana Pacers and Indiana Hoosiers basketball. She is survived by her daughters; Vicki McMillan, Brenda (George) Sullivan, Debbie (Cheryl) Diggs-Hughes; her son Bruce (Tammy) Hughes; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and her sisters JoAnne Kruger and Ruth Hall. Services will be at Noon Monday, December 5, at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory. Burial will be at East Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. Monday until time of services at the funeral home.
