Ms. Carol Genell Keown

January 17, 1936 — November 3, 2019

Carol Gennell Keown, 83, passed away November 3, 2019 at her home in Anderson, after a long battle with cancer. She was born January 17, 1936 to the late Effie & William Morris on January 17, 1936 in Dalton City, Illinois. Genell graduated from Bethany High School in 1953. She worked at Illinois Bell and then advertising at a local newspaper while raising her family and serving her church. She retired from the United States Postal Service as a rural carrier in Pendleton in 1999 after more than 20 years of faithfully delivering mail in the Indiana heat, rain, sleet, snow, and even blizzards. Her real passion was music, however and was an accomplished pianist and choir director. She served as a director for over 50 years, leading several church choirs including, Prairie Avenue Christian Church in Decatur, IL & First Christian Church in Edina, MO. Also, several churches in Indiana including Wolcott Christian, Pendleton Christian, Chesterfield Christian, and New Horizons & Saint Matthew United Methodist Church both in Anderson. Genell is survived by her children, Tim Keown of Anderson, Kim Keown of Powell, Ohio, & Chris Keown of Indianapolis; longtime friend & companion, Mike Skorpuski of Noblesville; her twin sister, Jeanette Cochran of Saratoga Springs, NY; brother, William Morris of Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Mary Dolan of Sullivan, IL; brother-in-law, Robert Primmer of Findlay, IL; grandchildren, Hannah & Noah of Wisconsin; numerous nieces & nephews; and her loving, faithful, fur ball of a lap cat, Ollie. She was preceded in death by her sister, Emma Lou Pirmmer; brother-in-law, Stanley Dolan; brother-in-law Leon Cochran and sister-in-law, Erna Morris. Genell’s dry wit and humor will be missed but has been consistently instilled and frequently practiced by her children, who will attempt to carry on her humor for the years to come. A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:00 pm Wednesday, November 6 at Saint Matthew United Methodist Church, 1512 N. Madison Avenue, with a reception immediately after the service. Burial will take place at 2 p.m. (CST) Friday, November 8 at Marrowbone Twp Cemetery, Bethany, IL. Arrangements were entrusted to Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory.
