Carol Ann Veerkamp, 71, of Anderson, passed away on March 5, 2022 at Ascension Hospital in Indianapolis. Carol was born on August 21, 1950 in New Albany, IN to the late, William “Nails” and Doris (Dils) Harrison. Carol received her bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Indiana Business College and worked as an accountant all her life. Carol married her first husband, Jack Burns, on February 2, 1975 and they resided in Indianapolis and Greenfield. Carol worked for Brylane, at this time, and would continue to work for them for 22 years. A few years later, Carol would marry her second husband, Michael Veerkamp, on November 24, 2001 in Newhall, Iowa. They resided in Iowa for over 16 years. Carol found herself working for Johnson Gas and Mendota during her time in Iowa. Carol and Mike moved back to Greenfield in 2019 to be closer to their family. Unfortunately, in August of 2020, Mike passed away and Carol moved to Anderson to be closer to her daughter, Dawn. Carol loved reading and raising/breeding her German Shepherds. She loved gardening and planting flowers, especially roses. Most importantly, Carol loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Carol will be dearly missed by her daughters, Dawn (Greg) Lintz and Jean (Steph) Burns; her grandchildren, James Zumwalt, Kyra (Matt) Riddle, Julie (James) Bumb, Amanda Hensley, and Tee Jay Hensley; her great-grandchildren, Lilliana Bumb, Elijah Zumwalt, Johnathan Goode, Kolton Zumwalt, Alexandria Griffith, Evelyn Riddle and Jackson Hibbert; her sisters, Kathie (Chris) Harrison and Debbie Childs; her nephew, Josh Childs; and her fur-baby, Muffin. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mike; her siblings, Patty McGee and Bill Harrison; and her German Shepherds, Shane and Sheba. The visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Wilson St. Pierre- Lahm, 211 E. State St., Pendleton, IN 46064. The funeral ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. The family has requested a procession of family and friends to Anderson Memorial Park, following the conclusion of services at Wilson St. Pierre- Lahm. There will be graveside remarks performed at the cemetery. All memorial contributions in Carol’s name may be gifted to the American Diabetes Association.Even after her death, Carol was able to help those in need. She was an eye tissue donor for Indiana Lions Eye and helped 2 people with cornea issues.
