Carl Edward Ellis, Sr.

Carl Edward Ellis, Sr., 92, Lapel, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2011, at his sons home following a brief illness.
He was born on October 2, 1918, in Madison County to Robert and Callie (Funk) Ellis.
Carl retired from the former Firestone Industrial Products in Noblesville and had farmed for most of his life. He and his father were the last Madison County farmers to use draft horses.
He was a member of the Ford Street United Methodist Church, Lapel.
He is survived by five sons, Carl (wife, Juanita) Ellis, Jr. of Pittsburg, TX, Larry (wife, Carol) Ellis of Fishers, Donald (wife, Rebecca) Ellis of Arcadia, Ralph (wife, Geri) Ellis, and Frank (wife, Debra) Ellis of Alexandria; one sister, Dolly (husband, Jim) Dial of Elwood; one brother, Chet (wife, Anna Mae) Ellis, Sr. of Swayzee; 26 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Martha Louise (Cain) Ellis; a son, Robert Ellis; two sisters, Katherine Jackson and Lillian Farr; and three brothers, Joe Ellis, John Ellis, and David Ellis, Sr.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, March 7, 2011, at Ford Street United Methodist Church in Lapel with Pastor Steve Holdzkom officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel.
Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday, March 6, 2011, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, Lapel.
