C. Marian Steedman

C. Marian Steedman, 97, Franklin, IN, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2013, at Franklin United Methodist Community. She was born June 4, 1915, in Dodge City, Kansas to Rev. Oscar and Clara (Price) Matthew. She graduated from Larned High School (KS) in 1933. She attended Southwestern College (KS), Taylor University and received an elementary education degree from Fort Hays State University. She received her masters degree in education from Ball State University. Marian wed Garfield G. Steedman in 1939 and enjoyed 64 years of wonderful marriage, living out her dream of being a pastor's wife. Together they served United Methodist churches in Cicero, WilliamsburgGreens Fork, Kendallville, Bourbon, Lapel, Union City, Mishawaka, and Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Marian was an elementary school teacher and taught in schools in Preston, KS, Union City, IN, Mishawaka, IN, and Shaker Heights, OH. Garf and Marian enjoyed retirement in North Webster, IN before moving to FUMC. She was an active member of Grace UMC in Franklin. She enjoyed traveling, camping, family and loads of friends. Marian lived a vibrant, loving, faithful and joyous life. She is survived by two sons, Donald L. Steedman of Covington, KY and Richard B. (Barb) Steedman of Evansville, IN; seven grandchildren, David A. Steedman, Angela L. (Jeff) Vasser, Allison L. (Ben) Appel, Brian J. Steedman, Emily S. (Paul) Fehrenbacher, Jeffrey M. (Tara) Steedman, and Daniel A. Steedman; five great-grandchildren, Carson Vasser, Zachary Vasser, Logan Steedman, Kelsie Appel, and Lyla Steedman; one sister, Evalyn Overin; one brother, Lowell Matthew; and a daughter-in-law, Kathy Steedman. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rev. Garfield G. Steedman; one son, Robert W. "Rob" Steedman; three brothers, Lloyd Matthew, Lynn "Bill" Matthew, and Lyle Matthew; and three sisters, Susie Love, Loreen Farkas, and Verlea Ray McKee. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Franklin United Methodist Community, Wright Chapel, in Franklin with Rev. Andy Kinsey officiating. A committal service and burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery, Lapel, with Rev. Justin Fisher officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Franklin United Methodist Community, Wright Chapel, 1070 West Jefferson Street, Franklin. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Committee on Overseas Relief, c/o Grace United Methodist Church, 1300 East Adams, Franklin, Indiana 46131.
