Byron Carl Land

Byron (Butch) Carl Land, 80, Anderson, was surrounded in love by family as he passed away on August 10, 2016 from an extended illness. Butch was born in Goldsmith, IN to Joseph and Madeline Land on December 9, 1935. Butch was raised in the parsonage of the 5th Street United Methodist Church where his father Joseph was the Minister. Butch was a 1953 graduate from Anderson High School. He met Betty Qualls and they were married on February 17, 1956 and Butch and Betty just celebrated their 60 year wedding anniversary. Butch was a masonry contractor by trade for 42 years, but he had many hobbies outside of work; oil painting, building projects, gardening, an avid reader, volunteering every Friday at the 5th Street United Methodist church food pantry and even writing a children’s book “Where Did the Unicorns Go”. Butch and Betty built a long list of life time friends who became like family to them including; Joe and Leila Baty, Dave and Sharon Wood, Etheridge and Betty Beauchamp and a very special thanks to Bob Lashbrook who stayed by Butch’s side throughout his illness.
Butch is survived by his wife, Betty Land of Anderson; three children, Steve (wife, Dale) Land, Brent (wife, Teresa) Land, and Brad (wife, Sharon) Land; eight grandchildren, Stephanie (Chris) Little, Army Captain Bryce Land-Deployed, Stephanie (John) Ramsey, Renee (Josh) Bush, Lora Land & fianc� Matt Mahoney, Brandi Land, Byron A. (Ciara) Land, Corey (Erica) Land and several great grandchildren; two sisters, Neva Yust and Lois Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Joseph and Madeline Land; two brothers and one sister, Joseph Land, Jr., Arno Land and Mariam Stoops.
Service will be at 1:00 P.M. Friday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory with Rev. Mandi Gould and Rev. Daryl A. Gilbert officiating. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery in Middletown.
Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
The family is asking that in lieu of flowers please make contributions to 5th Street United Methodist Church Food Pantry, 1124 West 5th St., Anderson, IN 46016.
