Burnha D. Young, 87, Pendleton, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014, at Community Hospital of Anderson following an extended illness. She was born on December 24, 1927, in Anderson, Indiana to Kenneth and Esther (Hedrick) Dowden. Burnha retiered in 1980 from the former Delco Remy division of General Motors in Anderson. She was a proud member of the UAW Local 663. She is survived by two children, Darrell (wife, Faun) Young and Judi Turpen both of Anderson; five grandchildren, Russell and Curtis Turpen both of Anderson, Jeremy (wife, Jennifer) Young of Pendleton, Wendy (husband, Bill) Swanson of Lapel, and Darrell Young, Jr. of Dunedin, Florida; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Beverly (husband, Lawrence) Galloway of Greenfield, and Phyllis Cruise of Knightstown; two brothers, Ray (wife, Carol) Dowden of Anderson, and Sam (wife, Patti) Dowden of Ingalls; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 43 years, Harry H. Young; a son, Frank Thomas Young; two brothers, Jack and Art Dowden; and a sister, Janet Denger. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, December 29, 2014, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Pastor Tom Wiles officiating. Burial will follow in Mendon Cemetery, Pendleton. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday, December 28, 2014, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends for PAWS, P. O. Box 336, Pendleton, Indiana 46064.
