Brenda S. Hicks, 70, passed away on December 29, 2015 at St. Vincent Regional Hospital after an extended illness.
She was born October 9, 1945 in Anderson, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Francis (Myers) Slaughter. In October, 1995 she married Tom Hicks.
Brenda retired from Delphi after 30 years of service in Security and Production. She was a member of UAW Local #662 and various cancer survivor support groups. She also worked with reuniting birth mothers and adoptees. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Alexandria.
She enjoyed her flower garden, going to her cabin down south, walking with Tom and their dog Solo in the park, and looking for Indian artifacts in fields. Mostly she treasured being with her family and grandchildren.
Brenda is survived by her husband, Tom Hicks, of Anderson; children, Nathan Allen, of Beech Grove, Jason (Gayle) Hicks, of Anderson, Heather (Beth Fisher) Hicks, of Anderson, Susan (Clayton) Chaney, of Bessemer, MI and Rex Barnes, of Lafayette; grandchildren, Nora Allen, Dylan and Kyleigh Hicks, Benjamin and Cheyenne Chaney and Bobby Osburn; great-grandson, Curtis Osburn; brother, Gary Myers, of Lafayette; sisters, Saundra Nickerson, of Indianapolis, Hedy Smith of Anderson and Debbie Worthington, of New Jersey; aunt, Mercedes Newbill, of Scottsdale, AZ; lifelong friends, Bessie Brumfield and Phyllis McKay; her dog, Solo; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, 515 East 53rd St., Anderson, with Fr. Daniel Duff officiating. Burial will follow at East Maplewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be 3-7pm Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Madison County Humane Society or Stepping Stones for Veterans.
