Beverly Joan Smith

Beverly J. Smith, 74, Anderson, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville following an extended illness.
She was born on July 20, 1934, in Anderson, Indiana to John and Helen (Fowler) Jones.
She graduated from Anderson High School in 1952, business school of Indianapolis, and Wilton School fo Cake Decorating in Chicago.
Beverly had a local catering busingss for 30 years. She taught cake decorating and gourmet cooking at the Y. W. C. A. and Pendleton High School.
She was past county president and served on the state committee of the Purdue Extension Homemakers serving on the county board for 15 years and was past president of her local Welcome Wagoneer's club. She was a member of the former Beall's Chapel United Methodist Church and had served on the board as a trustee and treasurer. Beverly and Malcolm loved to travel taking 18 crusies, she loved the water
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Malcolm Smith; two children, Stephen (wife, Barbara) Smith of Anderson, and Loraine Smith of Atlanta; four grandchildren, Jessica (husband, Mike) Tharp of Noblesville, Greg (wife, Melissa) Smith of Anderson, Joshua Miller who is stationed in Afganistan , and Kayla Knotts of Lapel; two great-grandsons, Gabriel Smith and Jonathan Tharp; one brother, Rev. Robert (wife, Jeannie) Jones of Anderson, SC; and four loving nieces and nephews of South Carolina and Tennessee.
Going home ahead of her were her parents; and a great-grandson, Joseph "Joey" Tharp.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Monday, January 5, 2009, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev. Robert Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel.
Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday, January 4, 2009, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Center, 625 Main Street, Anderson, Indiana 46016 or the charity of the donor's choice.
