Beverly “Bev” (Martin) Wood, 77, of Anderson, IN passed away Friday, September 17, 2021. She was born on July 12, 1944 in Anderson, IN to the late Frances and Mary (Sokolich) Martin. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Alvin Rodney Wood; her brother, Frank M. Martin; her step-son, Douglas Wood; and grandson, Jacob Wood. Bev was an elementary teacher for Anderson Community Schools and retired in 2001, after 35 years of teaching. Bev was nominated by multiple members of the ACS Hall of Fame and was regarded as one of the most influential teachers. She was an inspiration to her students and many of them still kept in touch with her to this day. Bev graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School and was a member of the last graduating class. This is where she found her spiritual home and was a faithful and dedicated member for many years. She was a member of the Victoria Guild and the Prison Ministries through the church, not to mention a number of other community outreach programs. She loved to travel and traveled to all 50 states with her husband, Rod. Two of her favorite trips were the Alaskan Cruise she took with her husband and the trip to Rome she took with her niece, Emily Caldwell. She loved gardening, playing cards, and reading. Bev will be dearly missed by her step-children, Marci (John) Dunham and Dennis (Carolyn) Wood; her grandchildren, John M. (Kasey) Dunham, Jennifer (Brian) Veale, Aaron Wood, Ryan Wood, and Rachel Wood; her 6 great-grandchildren; her beloved niece and nephew, Pam (David) Hubble and Greg Martin; her great-nieces and nephews, Sean (Fiancée, Chelsea) Erwin, Joshua (Fiancée, Autumn) Erwin, Bridget (Josh) Stutsman, Katelyn Martin, and Taryn McDonald; her 3 great-great nieces and nephews and one on the way; her beloved cats; her sister-in-law, Charlotte Hogan; her brother-in-law, Boyce Wood; her cousins, Delores Morgan and Patricia Delaplane; her dearest friends, Bonnie Jones, Georgette Pate, Joan Burton, Pat Melson, Tobie and Greg Vannatta and the many others who impacted her life; and her caretaker, Nancy (Greg) Joslin. The visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Friday, September 24, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The funeral mass will begin at 1 p.m. Burial will take place in East Maplewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bev’s name may be gifted to the Animal Protection League, Madison County Humane Society, or the Anderson Education Fund.
