Betty Ruth Bloom

Betty Ruth Bloom, 89, Lapel, passed away Monday, March 2, 2015, at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville following a brief illness surrounded by her six children, her sister, and other family members. She was born on September 12, 1925, in Kendallville, Indiana to Harry and Rachel (Coats) Savoie. Betty was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church; the Ford Street Nomads; and the Lapel American War Mothers. She is survived by six children, Kay (husband, Roy) Collins of Wawaka, Cheryl (husband, Jim) Cross of Fortville, Gale (fiance, Sandy) Bloom of Lapel, Tim Bloom of Lapel, Penny McDole of Lapel, and Melanie (husband, Jon) Gunn of Anderson; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Kay of Bessemer, AL. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin Bloom; one grandson; two brothers, Kenneth and Max Savoie; and three sons-in-law, Bob Shannon, Jimmy McDole, and Gene Weber. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm Friday, March 6, 2015, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Pastor Jim Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel. Visitation will be from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm Friday, March 6, 2015, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church or Riley Children's Hospital.
