Betty K. Shaffer, 94, of Anderson, passed away Friday, February 14, 2020. She was born, June 29, 1925, in Elwood, to the late, Adam & Elizabeth (Bertzel) Krebs. She attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School in Elwood and graduated from St. Mary Catholic High School, in Anderson, in 1944. She attended Indiana Business College and became an Executive Secretary Betty was a homemaker raising her family, all the while devoting time to volunteering at St. Mary’s School, St. John’s Health Center, the Cub Scouts, The Brownies, The Red Cross, & Longfellow Plaza. She was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church. While attending, Betty formed and conducted two study clubs, St. Theresa the Little Flower of Jesus and Mary Queen of Peace. She sang with the St. Mary’s Church Adult Choir for 20 years. She was always devoted to her family, relatives, & friends. Betty is survived by a son and daughter, Thomas Shaffer and his wife Rev. Carol Hegland and Theresa Loucks. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Shaffer, who died January 4, 1983, whom she married on Sept., 6 1947; a brother, J. Robert Krebs; and a sister, Rosemary Hobbs. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at St. Mary Catholic Church, in Anderson, with Monsignor Robert Sell III officiating. Burial will follow at East Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church.
