Betty Jo Smith

Betty Jo Smith, 90, of Anderson, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Bethany Pointe Health Campus in Anderson, following an extended illness. 

She was born on August 19, 1932, in Lapel, Indiana to Shirley C. and Martha "Kate" (Galliher) Stanford.

She graduated from Lapel High School. She retired in 1997 after 29 years of service at The Town of Pendleton. Betty enjoyed doing puzzles and traveling. Years ago, she and her husband, Allie, loved raising miniature horses.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Kathy Sue Barbee of New Castle; one sister, Virginia (Bob) Milliner, of Lapel; one brother, Fred (Vickie) Stanford, of Anderson; three grandchildren, Brandon Smith, David (Katie) Heiny, and Corbin (Agi) Barbee; three   great-grandchildren, Kelby Heiny and Layne and Rayne Barbee. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Allie T. Smith; her parents; a son-in-law, Ricky Joe Barbee; and her brother, William C. Stanford.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Hersberger-Bozell Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel, Indiana 46051, with Rick Busby officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery in Lapel.

Visitation will be from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
