Betty Jean Selwa

Betty Jean Selwa, 87, of Anderson passed away quietly in her sleep at home Monday morning, December 10, 2018, eight years after a serious disabling stroke. Betty was born November 23, 1931, in Morgan County, Indiana, to Everett and Myrtle Voris. She attended Martinsville High School and married Ray Selwa on June 12, 1952. Professionally she worked as executive secretary for Stokely-Van Camp; executive secretary for Eli Lilly; secretary for American States Insurance; secretary for West 10th Street Nazarene Church; and secretary to the executive director for the State Convention of Southern Baptists in Indiana, all in Indianapolis. She and husband Ray were members of the First Church of the Nazarene in Anderson, where Betty had taught a women’s Bible study. Betty had also served as secretary at Grace Missionary Church in Mooresville, Indiana, where she and Ray were active church leaders and Sunday school teachers. One of the highlights of her life was traveling to London and visiting Tenwick Hospital in Kenya. Betty is survived by loving husband, Ray Selwa, who faithfully cared for her during her extended illness. Survivors include daughters Dr. Karen Williams (Jack), of Anderson and Kimberly Yoder (Jared), of Nappanee, Indiana; grandson Ben Yoder (Amanda), of Carmel, Indiana; granddaughter Amy Yoder of Marion, Indiana; grandson Jesse Williams (Holly) of Zionsville, Indiana; and great grandchildren Graham, Beau, and Beckett Williams. A celebration of Betty’s life will be held Thursday, December 13, 1 p.m. at Brown Butz and Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, 515 E. 53rd St. Anderson.
