Betty H. Simmermon, 93, Lapel, went home to be with her Lord and Savior surrounded by her family on Saturday, December 21, 2013, at her home following an extended illness. She was born on August 17, 1920, in Anderson, Indiana to Charles and Mary (Perkins) Huston. She graduated from Anderson High School in 1938 and received a degree from Stephens College in Columbia, MO in 1940. Betty had been employed at one time as secretary to the sales manager at the former Delco Remy division of General Motors in Anderson. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapel where she led the Willing Workers Sunday school class and had served on many committees including president of the United Methodist Women; she was a member of the Emmaus community; the Bible Study Fellowship in Anderson; the Alcott Club; and was an avid bridge player in several clubs. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, William Simmermon; three children, Teresa (husband Dwight) Monical of West Lafayette, John (wife, Marcia) Simmermon of Lapel, and Amy (husband, John) VanBuskirk of Hudson, OH; ten grandchildren, Joseph, Mary, Thomas, Anna, and Jonathan Monical, Brad (wife, Katie) Simmermon, Jill (husband, Cody) Hays, William, Kimberly, and Christina VanBuskirk; and a sister-in-law, Betty Huston. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, LaVon Wade, Esther Gibson, and Martha Nealis; and two brothers, Victor and Thomas Huston. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, December 24, 2013, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapel with Pastor Doug Barton officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm Monday, December 23, 2013, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 606, Lapel, Indiana 46051-0606.
