Bernice Dean (Neighbors) Hartsock

Bernice Dean (Neighbors) Hartsock. 90, of Greenfield and former Indianapolis resident passed away peacefully on July 26, 2020. She was born November 21, 1929 in Bowling Green, Kentucky to Veachel and Levia (Martin) Neighbors. Bernice retired from Indianapolis Power and Light where she worked in housekeeping and the cafeteria. One of her favorite memories was from the Blizzard of 78. She lived close enough that they sent a truck to pick her up. She stayed at IPL for several days providing meals for all the linemen working non-stop to get the power back on. She was a member of Westview Baptist Church, Indianapolis. Bernice enjoyed pitch in dinners with her church and family and she was well known for her Deviled eggs and Banana Pudding. She enjoyed collecting dolls and flower gardening. She helped raise funds for heart disease research for many years. She participated in the bowling league at Indianapolis Power and Light. Bernice did not have any children of her own, but she was like a Grandmother to all of her nieces, nephews and family of her late husband, Bob Hartsock. Survivors include brother, Vester (Elma) Neighbors; sister, Earline (Carlie ) Brumit; nieces and nephews, Barbara Boswell, Mike Neighbors, Loren Neighbors, Karen Perry, Malcom Brumit, Vickie Douglas, Mark Brumit, Lora Phares and Kelvin Neighbors; several great nieces and nephews; great great nieces and nephews; and great great great nieces and nephews! She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Lawrence J. “Tuck” Howard and Robert Hartsock; infant brother, Desper Burton Neighbors; brothers, Leten Neighbors and Lester Neighbors; and sister, Sophia Raines. Services at 11 a.m., Saturday at Condo & St.Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Wilkinson with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday. A graveside service with burial following will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Greenwood, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to Andis Womens Clinic, 801 N.
