Austin Oak Renner, 96, Lapel, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2010, at Millers Merry Manor in Chesterfield following a brief illness.
He was born on March 28, 1914, in Fishersburg, Indiana to Oak and Blanche (Schuyler) Renner and was a lifelong Fishersburg and Lapel resident.
He graduated from Lapel High School in 1932 and was the last living member of his class.
Austin retired in 1979 from Anderson Newspapers, Inc. after 26 years as a printer, he was also a former town clerk for the Town of Lapel.
He was the widower of Eleanor Elaine (Waters) Renner who died on February 22, 2005.
He is survived by two children; Suzanne (husband, William) Peachy of Saudia Arabia, and Steven (wife, Darlene) Renner of Yorktown; four grandchildren, Miriam Peachy of Phoenix, AZ, Solomon Peachy of Melbourne, FL, Ayla Peachy of Athens, GA, and Leylea Peachy Richmond, VA; two great-grandchildren, Faisal and Kamal Kenanah; two brothers, Donald (wife, Virginia) Renner of Dayton, OH, and G. Neal (wife, Gretna) Renner of Anderson; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Janet Elaine Renner; brother, Glen Renner; and three sisters, Grethel Curry, Crystal Friggle, and Carolyn Begley.
The family wishes to thank Evelyn Hollinger and Olevia Cascadden for their on-going care-giving and friendship to Austins well being. Austin was a lifelong optimist who never seemed to have a bad day and was gracious in thanks to all who knew him.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev. Steve Holdzkom officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, May 21, 2010, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel.
