Artie Buck, beloved father and grandfather, 85, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2016, after a brief illness.
Artie was born on August 28, 1930, in Hilham, Tennessee nestled in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. He was the son of William Wesley and Hattie Nivens Buck.
Artie served his country proudly in the Korean War. He was a member of the 45th infantry division. He participated valiantly in active duty and he was one of the last of the greatest generation.
He married Bobbie Jean Matthews who was the love of his life. Their lifelong love affair produced two daughters. Artie was a loving husband and grandfather. He was the patriarch of our family and we looked to him for love and guidance.
He was an avid golfer and a member of the Masons. Artie retired from Recreation Equipment Company where he was employed and an Expeditor.
Artie is survived by his daughters, Cynthia Broderick Summers and Sharon Oakley, five grandsons who were his pride and joy, Evan (Carla Lee) Broderick, Ryan Broderick, Wesley Summers, Chad (Ashley) Oakley and Aaron (Megan & Fayte Bridwell) Oakley, great grandchildren, Caine Oakley, Xander Oakley, Cash Oakley and Harper Lee Broderick.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie, siblings, Abe, Terry, Price, Nina and Bill.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory. Entombment will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 266 Honor Guard.
Calling hours will be from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
We will never again be as well taken care of, as we were when he was with us.
Monuments and high rises will not bear his name nor will libraries or hospitals host his likeness. No, he will live on forever in the hearts of his children and the laughter of his grandchildren. And those of us left behind will give daily pause to have been given the gift of this good man’s presence and we will continue to do his good name justice and make him proud.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Saint Mary’s School of Anderson.
