Anna Marie Johnson

Marie Johnson, 96, Lapel, left her earthly home Wednesday, October 15, 2014, and is now with her heavenly Father. She was born on March 14, 1918, in Knightstown, Indiana to Alvin and Nellie (Davis) Lawson and attended Lapel High School. Marie operated a home child day care and had managed the meat department for many years in the former Cascadden's grocery in Lapel. She had also been the domestics manager at the former Nichol Avenue Kmart in Anderson. For many years she baked and decorated cakes for all occasions. She was a member of the Lone Oak Wesleyan Church. She is survived by one daughter, Bonnie Frist of Anderson; three grandchildren, James M. (wife, Carolyn) Johnson of Plano, TX, Kimberly (Frist) (husband, Mike) Alexander of Arcadia, and Robert D. Frist of Columbus; nine great-grandchildren, Brandon Johnson, Alicia (husband, Scott) Kiovsky, Blake, Cassondra, Douglas, and Evan Alexander, Jacob, Wyatt, and Ashley Frist; and one great-great-granddaughter, Kadence Kiovsky; nieces and nephews, Emogene Dilg, Shawn and Glen Lawson, Sherrie Benson, John E., Bridah, and Rick Dill, and Darla Wensel; and extended family members, Paul and Patsy Fort and Steve and Jennifer Horton. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Larry and Jim Johnson; two sisters, Eletha Hankins, Alberta Dill; and three brothers, John, Chase, and Rex Lawson. Marie had a strong faith in God and a great love for her family and friends. She was known for her quick wit and sense of humor which she shared through her final days. One of her greatest joys was cooking, especially for family dinners. She appreciated the wonders of nature and enjoyed sharing her knowledge with others. Marie lived a full life and was amazed by the many changes she witnessed over her nine decades. Her grandchildren delighted in hearing the stories of her youth. She left a legacy of love and will be truly missed by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, October 19, 2014, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev. Jerry Snyder officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Saturday, October 18, 2014, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel.
