Alvin Rex Mercer

Alvin Rex Mercer, 82, of Pendleton, passed away on June 10, 2020 at Community Hospital Anderson. He was born in Pendleton on November 13, 1937 to J. David and Precious Jewel (McDaniel) Mercer and lived here his entire life. He was a member of the Pendleton High School Class of 1955 and graduated from the General Motors Apprentice School. On October 10, 1959, he married the former Barbara Jean McLin, and together they raised their family. He served his country for four years as a United States Marine. He worked for 40 years at Guide Lamp as a Tool & Die Journeyman, retiring in 1996.Rex was also very active in his community, serving as a Troop Leader of the Pendleton Boy Scout troop, who he took on monthly scouting trips for over 10 years. He was a board member of the Pendleton Historical Museum for over 10 years. He also dedicated over 35 years of his life to collecting and restoring Minneapolis Moline Tractors and Equipment.Rex is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean Mercer; children, Rex Allen (Penny) Mercer, Jeffrey Linn (Roxanne) Mercer, James Lee (Tyna) Mercer and Lori Ann (Dean) Stephenson; four granddaughters; and siblings, Dale Mercer, Leland Mercer, Judy Tescher, Janet Springfield and Justine Handley.He was preceded in death by his parents; and 4 siblings. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory – Lahm Chapel with Pastor Michelle Cobb officiating. Burial will follow in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to the Pendleton Historical Museum or the Oncology Department at Community Hospital.Online condolences can be made www.stpierrefamilyfuneral.com
