Alva S. Snyder, 96, of Anderson, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2017, and is now dancing with the angels. Alva was born on March 1, 1921, near Greensburg in Decatur County, the daughter of Effie (Baker) and Walter J. Sharp. Her family moved to Anderson in 1929 and she graduated from Anderson High School in 1940. After 30+ years of service, she retired from Delco-Remy in 1977. She was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church of Anderson, and a member of the UAW Local 662 and the WOW Red Hats Group. She married Wayne C. Snyder on May 31, 1941, and they were happily married for 61 years prior to his death. She is survived by two children: Beverly Kellams (Roger) of Carmel, and Carolyn Mohler (Steve) of Mechanicsville, VA.; and a sister-in-law, Jean Layton of Lapel. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; Scott Blankenship (Michelle), Dr. Michael A. Kellams (Amy), Lori Blankenship Fudens, Angela Blankenship, Brandon Blankenship, Susan Coleman (Travis), Brad Mohler (Jennifer) and Audra Jarrett (Byron); 15 great-grandchildren, Matthew Kellams (Rebekah), Braden Kellams, Aaron Kellams, Emily Kellams, Lily Kellams, Lindsey Crenshaw (Frank), Taylor Blankenship, Samantha Fudens, Austin Adt, Tyler Adt, Lauren Adt, Isaac Coleman, Brooklyn Mooney, Jaxon Jarrett and Beverly Mohler; one great-great grandson, Miles Crenshaw, and a second great-great grandson, Hayden Kellams, due to arrive in November; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Alva was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne; one daughter, Eleanor Blankenship; one grandson, Stephen Kellams; and six siblings; Grace Deweese, Mary Rinehart, Robert Sharp, Martha Heflin, Sarah Forster, and Margaret Maly. Alva’s family expresses unending thanks to Dr. Sunil Juthani, Primrose Retirement Community of Anderson, Green House Cottages of Carmel and Heartland Hospice Care for their compassion and care of Alva. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 14, 2017, at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, with Rev. Art Jaggard officiating. Burial will follow in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Anderson, IN, or the American Diabetes Association.
