Alta Mae Newton

Alta Mae Newton, 73, Lapel, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville following an extended illness.
She was born on August 4, 1935, in Indianapolis, Indiana to George and Wanita (Stickles) Higgins.
She is survived by five children, Wayne Burns of Indianapolis, Cathy Burns of Fort Wayne, Jeff (wife, Sherrie) Burns of Kentucky, Eddie Newton and Paula Simmerman of Lapel; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 38 years, Herbert P. Newton; one brother, George Higgins, Jr.; one sister, Josephine Hawkins; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Burns; and a son-in-law, Randy Simmerman.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, March 20, 2009, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev. Mark Helm officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday, March 19, 2009, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel.
