Alberta Rose (Amberger) Smith, 84, Madison, New Jersey, passed away Sunday, February 13, 2005, at Pine Acres Nursing Home in Madison, New Jersey following an extended illness.
She was born on August 8, 1920, in Terre Haute, Indiana to Albert and Cecil (Kinser) Amberger. She received her BS in 1942 from Indiana State University and her MS in 1967 from Indiana University. Prior to her retirement in 1989, Alberta was an accomplished music teacher in numerous elementary schools across Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, and New Jersey. She loved music and working with children. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend. She will be forever missed by all who loved her. She was a member of Calvary Church in Bayonne, New Jersey. She is survived by four children, Mark L. and his wife Roxanne Smith; Sarah K. and her husband The Rev. James Cravens and their two children, Rachelle and Gregory; David D. and his wife Cindy Smith and their two children, Kristin and Matthew; and Robert and his wife Tracy Bridges and their two children, Lauren and Stephen. She was preceded in death by her husband, The Rev. Harry E. Smith, a sister, Helen (Amberger) Fasig, and her parents. Services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev. James Cravens officiating. Burial will be at the Brookside Cemetery in Lapel. Friends may call from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM Friday at the Scott E.
