Alan S. Ray

Alan Scott Ray passed away after an extended illness on October 30, 2023 at the age of 76. He was born October 9, 1947 in Indianapolis to the late Ivan and Edith “Irene” (Shirley) Ray. He graduated Richmond High School in 1965 before earning his BA at Indiana University followed by his pursuit of medicine at IU’s School of Medicine, where in 1973, he received his MD in Radiology.

Many remember Alan as a brilliant, caring, and generous father and grandfather. He was an attendee of South Meridian Church of God until his health began to decline.

Alan loved sports of many kinds, especially the Indianapolis Colts, Cincinnati Reds and IU Basketball. Growing up, he was a talented pitcher and enjoyed playing golf. Alan was proud of scoring a perfect score when he took the SAT’s, and very proud of his children and their many accomplishments.

Alan is survived by his children, Kevin Ray, Brian (Sarah) Ray, Sara Wagner, and David (Kassandra) Ray; grandchildren, Sydney Wagner (15) and Niall Ray (8); brother, Stanley (Mary Sue) Ray; sister Mary Jo (Verne) Trester; former spouse, Dr. Joanne Ray; nieces and nephews, Scott (Debbie) Ray, Sherry (Bob) Albrecht, John (Polly) Ray, Mindy (Tim) Dickey, and Chris (Chuck) Updegraff.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Primrose, Primrose Memory Care, Heartland/ProMedica, and Gentiva Hospice Service for their kindness and relational care.

The visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson, IN, 46013.  The service will begin at 12:00 PM at the funeral home.  Burial will be at East Maplewood Cemetery, 200 College Dr, Anderson, IN 46012.
