Alan 'Mel' Paul Richardson

Alan Paul "Mel" Richardson, 78, of Lapel, Indiana, sadly he passed away suddenly on Friday August 7, 2020. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana 1942. His parents were Virginia (VanBlair) Richardson and Melvin Richardson.
Mel graduated from Lapel High School in 1960, where he excelled in basketball, baseball and track and field. He married the love of his life Marybeth (Judd) Richardson on June 6, 1975, after 34 years he retired from Delco Remy in 1997, was also a Madison County Deputy and then a Lapel Police Officer until 1975. After retirement he enjoyed working for Millers Auto Body and Ed Martin Toyota.
He loved his family dearly and his grandkids even more, he always had great words of wisdom, a grand sense of humor and lots of fun sarcasm. Basketball was always his passion and for several years, he was the first one in the gym to get his seat so that he could watch four of his grandsons and the Lapel Bulldogs play. He was a huge Indiana Hoosiers fan (among many other sports teams), enjoyed RVing, was an avid fisherman and had a big ole soft spot for his four granddogs (Lexi, Caffrey, Libby and Maggie).
Mel is survived by his loving wife of 45 years; his brother John E. Richarson; his children, Dan (Angie) Richardson, Darrell (Tammy) Richardson, Dee Richardson Carrico and Lisa (Jim) Ratzlaff; 9 grandchildren, Danika (Ian), Chelsey (Justin), Brandon, Mitchell, Jon Ross, Luke, Sierra (Hunter), Lilly (Devin) and Reid; 4 great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Jaxton, Emerson and Bowen; special family members, daughter-in-law Carmen Richardson, father-in-law Spencer Judd, sister -in-law Toby (Gary) Benefiel, brother-in-law Spence (Debbie) Judd and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and baby grandson Kevin Carrico.
At Mels request there will be no services and cremation will take place.
